To illuminate and celebrate the life and accomplishments of Momina, her family and friends established the Momina Cheema Foundation, simultaneously in the United States and Pakistan. The Foundation aspires to empower and enrich the lives of young scholars, especially females, by furthering their knowledge in various academic disciplines of higher-education.
Born on September 25, 1985 in Pakistan and raised in Saudi Arabia and United States, Momina Cheema was a speech champion and valedictorian at Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio. She received her bachelors in Literature from Duke in 2007 and masters in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Harvard in 2008. Momina was a Law scholar at The University of Virginia with a judicial internship at the U.S. Eastern District court of New York at the time of her return to the heavenly abode. She passed away in an automobile accident on Friday, the June 10th in 2011.
Momina has dedicated her life to enhance her knowledge in Islamic law, philosophy, and culture. She was a passionate advocate of pluralism, and civil and human rights both in the United States and Pakistan. Her legacy footprint today is far bigger than her very short life span.
This fellowship established to support graduate students in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. Recipients of this fellowship are young researchers studying Islamic law, philosophy, and South Asian culture. Since 2012, research and travel grants are being awarded to selected individuals to support their research as well as field work in Pakistan.

The University has begun awarding scholarship annually starting from the academic year 2014- 2015. MCF hopes to expand the fund portfolio to support more young scholars.
